After binge-listening to Silversun Pickups for week leading up to the show. I was more than elated to have my camera in-hand when the lights went down and they took the stage. I was conflicted between enjoying the songs and getting good shots. I just wanted to rock out with the band in-between shots I was bobbing my head like it was my own private show.
They put on an amazing show as usual. They didn’t have the dynamic-light show backdrop they used back in 2010 (which really had an awesome effect on the show) however they relied on the stage lighting and some floor LEDs and the industrial-sized strobes added the kick for ‘Panic Switch’. Opening the show with the track ‘Better Nature’ they all sounded great as Brian’s vocals are as smokey and viscous as on the record. Nikki rocked it out for all her vocal parts (even thought Brian told everyone to stare at her and make her nervous when she sang on ‘Circadian Rhythm (Last Dance)’) and the crowd gave her an enthusiastic cheer whenever she took the mic.
Some highlights were the crowd screaming ‘We want it!’ in unison to ‘Nightlight’, the bridge to ‘The Pit’ and the screamo part of ‘Kissing Families’. Always a great show!
