Lights & Apparitions, a post hardcore and experimental metal-core band, is about to deliver a refreshing tone and sound to the genre of metal with their upcoming release of their debut EP Heaven Again.
Combining both electronics and low sounding, heavy core music, they are hoping to reach out to as many people as they can. Fans of Sleeping With Sirens, Hands Like Houses and Of Machines are going to love this band. L&A are set out to enrich their home town’s (Houston, Tx.) music scene and deliver excitement, raw emotion and energy like no other band to the stage.
The band consists of:
Kenny – screams
Gabe – singer/bassist
Tyler – guitarist
Jeremy – drums
Gabe was kind enough to chat with AmpKicker about the band and their upcoming EP –
Where does the name Lights & Apparitions come from?
G: Honestly man the name comes from a Hands like Houses song. I was trying to figure out a name and my favorite song by them titled “lion skin” has a verse that I really felt a connection with so I put lights & apparitions from that verse together and we both agreed it sounded cool so we stuck with it.
What are some of your favorite bands?
G: Oh man, we have so many bands that we jam a lot but I’d say the bands that we like to tie in most to our music are Hands like Houses, Saosin and Of Machines.
You guys will soon release an EP, can you guys reveal something about it?
G: I think that if people liked Sinking, they’re really going to like the EP. I really feel like the entire EP is so dynamic and energetic. The EP will consist of 6 tracks that all consist of so much energy. You won’t be able to sit still when you’re listening to it.
What will be the name of the EP. ?
G: Our debut EP is titled Heaven Again.
How did L&A form as a band and when?
G: We started the band in the summer of 2014. We both went to a lot of shows and listened to the same music. We decided we should give the band thing a try. We were going to wait and see how sinking was received to decide if we should do it anymore. The song was very well received so we decided to keep it going!
Who Produced the EP?
G: Heaven Again is produced by our good friend Bryce Kariger. He’s such a talented producer and it is an honor working with him.
What band would you want to go dream tour with one day?
G:My dream tour would probably be with Underoath, Saosin, and Of Machines.
Will the band be playing shows any time soon?
G: Hopefully! We have 2 more songs ready to be released, and we’re working on others. So when we get everything done, we will definitely start playing some shows.
What does it mean for you guys to be in this band?
G:I think that music is amazing in so many levels and I have always been fascinated by it. It’s a way to connect to people that you might not have connected to before. It brings together all different types of people. I think that’s really cool.
What is the meaning behind your single “Sinking”
G:Well this is going to sound corny but honestly the lyrics of the song pretty much say it all, I wrote this song after a break up with a girl who I thought I was going to be with for the rest of my life but in the end things didn’t work out for us. Writing that song was kind of my way of coping with that because I was able to get how I was feeling off of my chest and put those feelings into something else.
How would you guys describe the music scene in Houston?
G:The music scene in Houston is pretty solid there really is so much talent here. We’re excited to get to play with some of these dudes. Although some may think it’s a competition the way we see it is we all have one thing in common and that’s a passion for music and we should all support each other.
What would you guys like to say to new listeners?
