Greetings, kickers! It’s been a while, but I’m making some inroads back into your loving… eyes… and … ears… and I come complete with auditory offerings of peace to make up for my prolonged absence!
For fans of synth-rock recording mastry, Toy Cities is an absolute must listen. “Nostalgia Kills,” is the first single from the Brooklyn-based indie group’s debut EP, Setting Son (which you can find via BandCamp). Sweeping synth pads, wandering bass runs and chiming arpeggiated guitar swirl behind a beautifully wafting melody, replete with enveloping harmonies to give the tune a spacey, ethereal feel. The trio describe their sound as a blend of “80’s post-punk and 90’s dream pop,” but regardless of the appropriateness of the descriptors it just equals incredibly engaging listening. There are metaphysical musings in the lyrical content to tease your frontal lobe as well. Do yourself a favor and give this one a spin… you shan’t be disappointed!

For fans of: Rubblebucket, Chamberlin, Hockey, College, Depeche Mode
