If your Monday blood is in need of a pick-me-up, try a little folk-rock infusion courtesy of London-based, Edinburgh-born singer/songwriter Ross Wilson’s creation, Blue Rose Code. The band is set to release their debut album North Ten early this summer via Reveal Records.
To record the album Ross teamed up with legendary bassist Danny Thompson (Kate Bush, John Martyn, Talk Talk) and singer/violinist Lizzie Ogle to create the soulful folk sound. Danny notes about working with Ross, “A superb singer, songwriter and guitarist. Beautiful songs, a genuine pleasure to have been involved”.
Wilson’s songwriting is heart-felt, pensive and delicate- fusing the stirring vocal timbre of Glen Hansard (The Frames, The Swell Season) and the meandering melodic arpeggiated acoustic guitar of Samuel Beam (Iron & Wine) throughout this Celtic-infused folk-masterpiece. The album is certain to be catnip for folk fans everywhere- and I for one will be feverishly consuming it upon its release.
For a taste of the tunes, check out the group’s acoustic rendition of, “Skin and Bones,” below and stay tuned for further information about the album’s release date.
