In a time where folk-rock music is saturating the charts with bands like Mumford & Sons and Of Monsters and Men, Civil Wars paving the way, many new bands are emerging to capture the ears of eager listeners. One of those breakthrough discoveries is The Oh Hello’s.

For Fans Of: Mumford & Sons, The Civil Wars, Of Monsters and Men, Los Campesinos!

Comprised of a magnificent duo of Maggie and Tyler Heath, self-produced music-making siblings hailing from the great state of Texas. The two started making music together as a gag gift for their mother on her birthday. Tyler convinced Maggie to record a tune with him called “Will You Have A Drink With Me” which spawned as an inside joke about their mother being wooed by a drunken Irishman while on a family vacation in Ireland. From the the chorus of that song which they sing “Oh, Hello/ Will you have a drink with me?/ Why not? Oh, please?/ Oh no!” spawned the band name The Oh Hello’s.

Their debut album Through the Deep, Dark Valley, they describe as a ‘self contained concept album that’s best listened to in it’s entirety in one sitting.’ Now, listening to an entire album in one sitting may seem like a burden in this age of instant gratification and itunes singles. Recorded from their home studio, their voices could replace that of Civil Wars and musical craftsmanship rivals that of Mumford & Sons. the thickness of the sounds and layers they create on the album make for a joyous coagulation of instruments and group-choir melodies. I dare you to give this album a shot and if you don’t fall in love with it after the first run-through; your heart is made of stone.

Plus the album is FREE!!! You have nothing to lose but your fruitless searches for great music, because here it is.

I really can’t stop listening to this album. It’s has such a thick and fulfilling sound when the boom of the bass drum and the acoustic strumming come together with the tambourine and the cymbal crashes (especially on The Valley (Resprise)). It’s a perfect combination to fill the holes that can’t be filled by Mumford or Civil Wars.

I can’t say enough good things to convince you to like them, so I’ll just have to let the music speak for itself.

All the lyrics are posted on their bandcamp page.

Key Tracks: Like The Dawn, Eat You Alive, Second Child, Restless Child, I Was Wrong, The Truth Is A Cave
