In most scenarios when a struggling independent band suffers the tragic death of their frontman, the remaining members leave the band behind never looking back. But when the band receives an outpouring of support and affection from the community of fans they have fostered, the band re-kindles the flame and gives everyone one more hurrah.

I was truly ecstatic about hearing new tracks form one of the most underrated bands I’ve ever known. Since the tragic death of the band’s vocalist Ray (Ray-Ray) Schuler in Feb of 2011 the band has held their head high and have been releasing footage of past shows and recording sessions on their YouTube page.

The Mayan Factor recently announced a new album of previous unreleased material that was completed during session with the late vocalist to be released 12-21-2012 (yes, there is a coincidence there).  They’ve also launched a new website for the album: http://yesterdaysson.com/

Here’s what they say about the album:

The songs were laid down as demos years ago. Recently the band went back into the studio and cut new tracks behind Ray’s guitar and vocals. Frank Marchand was back at the board and the ride was an emotional roller coaster, but at the end of the day…..we all walked away completed.

These songs and this last album was a gift to the band, a salute to the warriors and A Breath of Fallen Air to the fans. Breathe it in again friends.

We present to you YESTERDAYS SON by THE MAYAN FACTOR.
